A Sixth Colourway of the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 Is Coming

Following images posted on Instagram in late May by Patta co-founder Guillaume Schmidt showcasing a new colourway of the highly appraised Air Max 1 collaboration launched in 2021, the excitement metre for the release instantly went up a few notches.

The current collaboration began in October 2021 with the highly anticipated ‘Monarch’ colourway, released alongside a short film that starred the sneakers. Featuring the now famous wave going along the medial and lateral sides of the upper, the Patta x Nike AM1 has since been released in a further three colourways including ‘Aqua’, ‘Rush Maroon’ and ‘Black and White’

The duo’s history is arguably what makes their most recent collaboration so special. Kickstarted initially in 2006 with the ‘Homegrown’ Air Max 90, Patta had been operating from central Amsterdam for just two years when they partnered with The Swoosh. Titled the ‘Homegrown’ with further reference to marijuana on the embossed leather panelling - the collaboration acted as a nod to the brands' roots in Netherlands capital.

Despite the initial collaboration being on an Air Max 90, the founders Schmidt and Sabajo's true love for the Air Max 1, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, became apparent; beginning with the release of three separate projects including the ‘Chlorophyll’, ‘Purple Denim’ and ‘5th Anniversary’ in 2009 as well as a slue of additional projects in later years.

While Schmidt showcased our first look on his Instagram at one of the upcoming colourways which features a burnt orange leather upper that is somewhat reminiscent of the previously released ‘Rush Maroon’ from the original rollout (read more about that here), it’s the announcement of the sixth colourway that has people most excited.

During the time the original colourways were released, keen-eyed fans were quick to notice a triple white pair of the Patta AM1 on the feet of Edson Sabajo, immediately sparking discussions as to whether we might see the colourway released officially. However, in December, Sabajo alluded to the sneaker only being a 1 of 1. Calling them the ‘Roman Forever’, the sneaker features the wording stitched on the heels of the shoe in honour of Edson’s son Roman who sadly passed away earlier that year.

However, the wait is finally over. During Paris Fashion Week, the founder of the London-based streetwear label ‘Corteiz’, who goes by the name Clint posted images on his story of the elusive triple white colourway of Patta AM1. Following the post, official images have now been released confirming the existence of the sixth edition.

As the images of the 1 of 1 pair suggest, the upper takes an almost entirely white colour palette with the addition of grey detailing on the Swoosh, mini Swoosh and mesh panels as well as the detailing on the tongue and heel. Sitting atop a slightly off-white midsole, the overall design of the sneaker is kept the same as before.

While the initial four were released in a black box with writing all over, the upcoming ‘White’ pair will be arriving in a more plain grey shoebox along with a new design on the paper as well as the bracelet from the OG pairs being swapped out for a red rubber hangtag that reads “Each One Teach One”.

At the time of writing, only two new colourways of the Patta x Nike Air Max 1 have been confirmed with no further colourways hinted at. However, with the original rollout in 2021 featuring four separate options, could we see further pairs emerge?
