A ‘We The best' Air Jordan 5 Pack Has Been Revealed

DJ Khaled and sneakers go together like bread and butter. From his enticing collection of Air Jordan 3 PEs to his classic sneaker moments including the highly meme-able ‘Congratulations, you played yourself’ moment.

Unlike usual sneaker releases we see nowadays, the announcement of his collaboration with Jordan Brand seemingly came out of nowhere with no prior warning from your usual roster of leakers. On an Instagram post on the 12th of April, Khaled posted an official trailer for the upcoming collaboration that sees the producer playing basketball with detailed looks at 6 different colourways set to release.

OFF-White Air Jordan 5 'Muslin', 2020

Released in 1990, the Air Jordan 5 sits in the rafters as one of the greatest silhouettes in Jordan Brand’s lineage, seeing several popular retroes as well as collaborating with OFF-White, Trophy Room and Supreme.

Following on from the trailer, a myriad of videos and images have been released onto Khaled’s page including him sitting at a table with a pile of the upcoming 5s in front of him commanding the cameraman to take a closer look at each colourway.

Out of the six colourways spotted in the videos and images, it's not certain which ones are set to release to the general public. As many know, when it comes to Jordan releases, there is usually a friends and family pair that remains elusive.

 

OG 'Grape' Air Jordan 5, 1990

The colourways seen so far include pastel pink, orange and teal as well as two purple renditions with one pair seemingly being reminiscent of the original 1990 ‘Grape’, a shoe that remains one of the most sought after to this day for longterm Jordan collectors.

Looking at the details on the sneakers, it appears that there are different varieties of each colourway. The blue and purple pair can be seen featuring a supple leather upper with others using nubuck or woven materials. 

In addition, looking at the details on the upper, certain pairs feature the usual netting found around the foot arch of the Air Jordan 5 while others can be seen with a plastic plate or premium hairy suede taking its place. The more you look at the images, the more details you uncover leading people to believe that are further information surrounding the rollout of the sneakers is yet to be announced. 

However, the luxe details you’d expect from a DJ Khaled / We The Best collaboration can be found throughout every pair featuring a quilted satin lining inside the shoe and high-quality materials used throughout with the usual upside-down ‘Air Jordan’ tab found stitched onto the inside of the tongue changed to ‘Keep Going’, one of Khaled's many mantras.

Paying homage to the OG Air Jordan 5, the shark teeth on the midsole can be found each with a speckled finish along with the icy outsole with the Jumpman logo on one side and the We The Best logo on the other. The most important detail for many sneaker collectors however will be the inclusion of the 'Nike Air' logo stitched onto the back of the right shoe with the WTB logo found on the left.

While little is currently known about the release date or the rollout of the sneakers, Khaled's Instagram seems to allude to certain pairs being exclusively friends and family as well as a further apparel line coming alongside the pack featuring a range of vintage 90s inspired Michael Jordan graphic tees that match the colour palette donned on the sneakers.

With the addition of an eclectic special shoebox, the We The Best Air Jordan 5 collection could be one to remember.
